Inside the Experience
Nestled along Asheville Highway in Brevard, North Carolina, Fuji Yama stands as a comforting beacon for lovers of Japanese cuisine. This unassuming spot has garnered a loyal following, thanks to its consistently good food, swift service, and wallet-friendly prices. From the moment you sit down, you’re greeted with warm soup, setting the tone for a meal that is both satisfying and thoughtfully prepared.
Fuji Yama’s menu shines with classic hibachi offerings—tender chicken, savory steak, fresh shrimp—all accompanied by vibrant vegetables and steamed rice or customizable sides like extra veggies. The chicken hibachi, in particular, showcases a delicate balance of flavors, enhanced by a modest yet meaningful option to substitute rice for more greens. Appetizers such as egg rolls and crisp salads add a pleasant contrast, though pacing these courses could be improved to elevate the dining experience further.
Service here deserves mention for its professionalism and efficiency. Whether dining in or ordering to go, guests consistently note quick seating and prompt food delivery, rarely enduring waits even during busy hours. This attentiveness allows the focus to remain on the delicious dishes—noodles stirred with chicken and shrimp stand out as especially delightful, marrying textures and flavors with subtle mastery.
While the decor may benefit from a fresh update to match the quality on the plate, it doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment. The homely atmosphere creates a relaxed vibe that invites patrons to savor their meals without pretense. Fuji Yama’s food hits the sweet spot of comfort, affordability, and taste, making it a worthy stop for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors in the heart of Brevard.
“ Highly recommend dining here for delicious food at a low price. They bring you soup as soon as you sit down. The reason for a star deduction is they brought our entrees right after receiving the salad and egg roll appetizer. I would have preferred time to eat the salad ($2) and egg rolls ($2 for 2)before receiving my entree. I replaced my rice with extra veggies to my chicken hibachi($8) for $1 and then a side of fried rice for $2.50. Such a deal! I should have not ordered the rice and just ate from my friend’s rice because it’s a large portion. The food is fresh and they use high quality ingredients. They leave a bottle of white yum yum sauce at your table! It’s so good. Plenty of parking in the attached lot. We saw many people getting take out. It’s a no thrills ambiance but amazing food and affordable. ”
“ The soup, salad, chicken and steak, shrimp, carrots all so delicious! Great service. ”
“ This is a review from a visit in December of 2022. We were heading to the restaurant across the highway which happened to be closed for maintenance. We ended up here. The restaurant could definitely have used a decor overhaul. The two dishes look almost identical. I had hibachi pork that is made with bell peppers, mushrooms and onion. The hubby had the beef, chicken and shrimp with broccoli. Both dishes came with sauteed carrots and white rice. Morning really stood out with our meals. They weren't bad but not the best we've had. I would like to try it again too see if anything has changed. ”
“ I liked it a lot. Would have given it a 5, but the wife thought it was average. It's okay. Next time I'll go back without her ”
“ Food is consistently good and always quick to get your order no matter if you go in to eat or get it to go. Plenty of parking. Even if it's busy you still don't have to wait long fit for a table. ”
